MOSCOW, January 21. /TASS/. Consumption of base polymers (polyethylene and polypropylene) in Russia gained 4% in 2024 to about 4.5 mln metric tons, head of operations marketing of Russian petrochemical major Sibur Viktoria Uvarova said at the Ruplastica exhibition.
The demand grew by 9% a year earlier and reached 4.3 mln metric tons, according to her presentation.
Imports of polymers from non-CIS countries declined in 2024 to 251,000 metric tons from 256,000 metric tons one year before. Imports of finished base polymer goods also went down from 220,000 metric tons in 2023 to 195,000 metric tons in 2024.
A high key rate and lack of access to financing generate risks of a decline in investing activities of processors in 2025, Sibur said. Packaging material consuming segments continued growing but a more moderate pace amid the slowdown of consumer activity.
