Delivery of Russian fertilizers to Mozambique to take 30 days — UN

The first ship with 20,000 metric tons (MT) of Russian fertilizers on board sailed from a Dutch port to Africa on November 29

UNITED NATIONS, November 30. /TASS/. A vessel with Russian fertilizers on board that departed from the Netherlands on Tuesday, is to arrive to Mozambique in 30 days, UN Secretary-General’s Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric has said.

"The shipment will take about 30 days to arrive in the port of Beira, in Mozambique, and from there, it will be transported overland to Malawi," he told reporters at a briefing on Tuesday.

The first ship with 20,000 metric tons (MT) of Russian fertilizers on board sailed from a Dutch port to Africa on November 29.

Earlier, the Uralchem and Uralkali group of companies announced that they agreed on a humanitarian shipment of fertilizers, which were blocked in the Netherlands, Belgium and Estonia. The first vessel to transport Russian fertilizers was chartered by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

A package of agreements on the export of food from Ukraine were signed in Istanbul on July 22 for a term of 120 days. One of the agreements regulating grain exports from the Kiev-controlled ports of Odessa, Chernomorsk, and Yuzhny was to expire on November 19. On November 17, it was announced that the grain deal was extended for 120 more days. According to the Russian foreign ministry, the deal was automatically extended since there were no objections from either of the parties to it (Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, the United Nations).

Also, Russia and the UN have signed a memorandum under which the international organization is committed to removing restrictions on the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to global markets.
