MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. Russia may start buying cars assembled in Iran. The countries signed a relevant memorandum of understanding worth $300 million, the Iranian agency Fars reported on Monday, citing the head of the local association of auto parts manufacturers.
"Russia will become another buyer of cars assembled on the territory of the Islamic Republic. Our countries have already signed a corresponding memorandum of understanding worth $300 million," the official said.
According to the agency, Iran already supplies cars of its own production to Azerbaijan and Armenia. In addition, the first batch of vehicles assembled in the territory of the Islamic Republic was sent to Venezuela, its volume is 1,000 vehicles.
On September 28, Russian Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Albert Karimov said that Iranian automobile companies are showing interest in the Russian market.
On November 16, the head of the Avtovaz carmaker Maxim Sokolov told reporters on the sidelines of the Transport of Russia forum that the company was considering Iran's proposal for joint production of cars.
