Ukraine suffering huge economic losses to large-scale air raid alerts — lawmaker

According to Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Finance, the strikes "paralyze economic activity"

KIEV, October 31. /TASS/. Ukraine's GDP is losing at least $203 million a day due to sweeping air raid alerts during working days, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Finance Danil Getmantsev said on Monday.

"Losses from large-scale alarms that last an entire working day amount to at least 7.5 billion hryvnia ($203 million - TASS) for GDP," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to him, the strikes "paralyze economic activity." He suggested that in order to avoid downtime, companies should be transferred to remote work or to working on weekends.

"Therefore, it is important to organize the work of both the public and private sectors of the economy remotely, either during non-working hours or on weekends," Getmatsev said. He added that this would make it possible to compensate for downtime and ensure the production of the necessary products.

An air raid alert was declared across Ukraine on Monday morning, following which reports began coming about damage done to energy infrastructure facilities. Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office Kirill Timoshenko said that emergency blackouts had begun across the country.
