UK to stop importing Russian LNG from January 1 2023 — Foreign Office

Earlier, the British authorities announced that by the end of the year the country would stop importing fuel from Russia

LONDON, October 28. /TASS/. The UK government will impose a ban on the import of Russian liquefied natural gas from January 1, 2023. This is according to a statement the United Kingdom Foreign Office published on Friday.

"From 1 January 2023, the UK is ending all imports of Russian liquefied natural gas and supporting countries around the world in reducing their own dependency [on Russian gas]," according to a statement posted on Twitter.

Earlier, the British authorities announced that by the end of the year the country would stop importing fuel from Russia.

As of 2021, almost half of the gas entering the UK market came from the British North Sea shelf. The largest exporter of gas to the country is Norway. At the same time, about 17% of imports are occupied by LNG supplies, most of which are carried out by Qatar, the USA and Russia.

Last year, the United Kingdom imported 3.12 bln cubic meters of Russian gas - 4% of the total consumption of this type of fuel. In June, Kwasi Kwarteng, then UK Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, said the country had cut gas imports from Russia by 75% compared to 2021.
