First power unit of Belarusian NPP reaches 100% capacity

Thermal capacity of the unit is 3,200 MW and electrical capacity is 1,170 MW, according to the Belarusian Energy Ministry

MINSK, January 13. /TASS/. The first power unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has reached 100% capacity, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry said on Wednesday.

"The first power unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant achieved the rated capacity level on January 12 at 19:57 pm (coinciding with the Moscow time)," the press service said. "Thermal capacity of the unit is 3,200 MW and electrical capacity is 1,170 MW. Static and dynamic tests will continue at such capacity level in the power unit under the pilot operation phase program," the press service added.

The comprehensive equipment and systems trials will be performed in the power unit at the rated capacity for 15 days after successful completion of tests, the Ministry said. "The power unit will be put into commercial operation in due course by the acceptance commission after the successful completion of comprehensive equipment trials," the Ministry added.

The first power unit of the NPP was included in the Belarusian grid system on November 3, 2020. The first and the second power units are to be commissioned in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
