MOSCOW, April 29 (Itar-Tass) - The season of fountains opens in the Russian capital this Monday.
Almost 500 water compositions will be turned on at the same time all over Moscow.
The fountains will give cool for Muscovites and guests on hot days until October.
Workers tested fountain complexes during the last week to check their readiness for the summer season. All the water cascades were prepared during the winter for the spring-summer season. Pump equipment was repaired or replaced. The complexes were cleaned. Specialists have assembled the decorative elements, which were removed for the winter, painted fences and polished fountains.
The largest fountain complex in the capital is located at Manezh Square. It consists of 12 fountains. The biggest for the water volume is located on Poklonnaya Hill -- about 15,000 cubic metres.
Among the largest Moscow water cascades is the musical and light-dancing fountain in the Tsaritsyno pond. Its diametre is 55 m. It consists of 12 circles and 915 water jets of various height, some 30 metres high. There are almost 4,000 underwater lights. The fountain is also equipped by a music system, and its music is heard all over the park.
The fountain complexes on Poklonnaya Hill, at Manezh Square, at the Kutuzov transport interchange and the "Seizure of Europe" fountain in front of the Kievsky railway station will work round the clock. The others, including at Teatralnaya Square and Pushkin Square, will be on from 10:00 to 22:00 every day.
The first fountain began to work in Moscow on Sunday. The cascades at the tree-lined walkway of fountains near the central entrance of the All-Russia Exhibition Centre were turned on last Sunday. The largest fountain in the exhibition centre (the former VDNKh), one of the capital's well-known sights and one of the oldest in the country -- the "Friendship of Peoples" Fountain -- will begin to work on April 30.
