NEW YORK, November 6. /TASS/. Elections in Venezuela would "ideally" be held next year, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
However, he declined to guarantee the vote would take place before the end of US President Donald Trump’s term in office. According to Rubio, Venezuela still must take several critical steps to create the right conditions for elections.
Trump’s presidential term will expire on January 20, 2029. The US secretary of energy said in May that elections in Venezuela would be held while Trump was still in office in the US. Trump himself told Time magazine in early October that it was too early to hold elections in Venezuela.
Venezuela’s authorized president Delcy Rodriguez said in an address to the UN General Assembly that the country would hold a presidential election once its people considered the time right, not when they received orders from abroad.
