The politician also announced plans to run for the European Parliament if Ukraine joined the EU

MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Former Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko announced he wants to run in the country’s next presidential election.

"If you are asking me whether I plan to take part in the next election - yes," he said in an interview with Al Jazeera television.

The politician said Kiev must succeed in the fighting in order to hold the election. Poroshenko also announced plans to run for the European Parliament if Ukraine joined the EU.

Ukraine was supposed to hold a presidential election in March. Incumbent President Vladimir Zelensky said it was impossible to go to the polls until after the end of hostilities.
