NEW YORK, December 13. /TASS/. The ability of Russian electronic warfare systems to jam US high-precision weapons has become a challenge for Ukrainian forces, US Lieutenant General Antonio Aguto said, the Defense One news website reported.
Jamming of some of "our more precise capabilities is a challenge," said the general, who has led Security Assistance Group-Ukraine, the umbrella organization for coordinating military aid to Ukraine.
Aguto said the Pentagon needs to upgrade its arms to be "resilient enough and flexible enough to be able to counter what our adversaries do."
"Within weeks or months of us employing something on the battlefield, our adversaries can find ways to either disrupt or counter some of these capabilities," he continued.
Defense One reported that Russia deploys many advanced electronic warfare capabilities, including some jammers that can block GPS signals at ranges of up to 15 miles, or 24 kilometers. The report said Ukrainian soldiers have complained that Russian jammers down their drones, and may have caused problems with the Starlink satellite internet system.
CNN previously reported, citing US defense officials, that Russian forces were capable of successfully jamming the signals guiding US precision missiles. According to the report, the efficiency of Russian electronic warfare prompted US and Ukrainian to create workarounds, including making tweaks to rocket launchers.
