Russia voted off OPCW Executive Council

Earlier, Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Kirill Lysogorsky said in a speech at the conference that the United States and its allies are trying to oust Russia from the OPCW Executive Council

THE HAGUE, November 29. /TASS/. Russia has lost its seat on the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), according to the results of the vote held during the 28th Session of the Conference of States Parties.

Russia received 65 of the required 66 votes. Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine will now represent the Eastern European Group on the OPCW Executive Council in 2024-2026.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Kirill Lysogorsky said in a speech at the conference that the United States and its allies are trying to oust Russia from the OPCW Executive Council. According to him, as part of this process, at the behest of Washington and Brussels, an anti-Russian lobby of 18 states subordinated to the military and political interests of NATO and the EU has been created in the OPCW's Eastern European Group, and Lithuania has applied to join the Council.

At the same time, the Russian side pointed out that Lithuania's membership would not add any value to the OPCW's tasks and urged the country to withdraw its application.
