NEW YORK, November 19. /TASS/. Foreign mercenaries do not fully understand what awaits them in Ukraine when they sign contracts with the Ukrainian armed forces and terminate them after they see fierce fighting, CNN reported referring to lieutenant of the Ukrainian armed forces Dmitry Kostyuk.
According to him, there weren’t enough people in his platoon, so it was staffed with fighters from other countries - 12 people in total. The military man noted that most of these mercenaries come to participate in the Ukrainian conflict only because it will be "a good mark on their resume" but they don’t understand what awaits them, CNN reported.
"It’s a different story with foreigners, because they can easily terminate a contract, unlike Ukrainians. This happened with me. Almost half of the people saw all this and said: "No, no, this is too much. We didn’t sign up for this," the Ukrainian officer said as quoted by CNN.
As CNN notes, Ukraine is now facing difficulties with replenishing the ranks of military personnel. The TV channel refers to an article by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian armed forces Valery Zaluzhny for The Economist magazine, in which he admits that Ukraine needs more military personnel, and as soon as possible.
CNN is confident that mobilization is now vital for Ukraine, since the counter-offensive has not led to any significant military victories, and support from Western countries may falter. In addition, the switch of public attention in Western countries from Ukraine to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict also does not benefit the country and its authorities, the TV channel notes.
