MINSK, April 3. /TASS/. Belarus will take part in mediatory efforts in settling conflicts and in peacekeeping missions under the auspices of the United Nations and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), according to the national security concept draft that was posted on the internet portal of legal information on Monday.
According to the document, Belarus will "take part in performing mediatory functions in settling conflicts and in peacekeeping activities under the auspices of the UN and the CSTO." Among the measures of defense against external threats to national security, the document cites "active participation in the activities of the CSTO, which is an inseparable part of international and Eurasian security."
The country will focus efforts "on preserving the course toward forming along the perimeter of Belarus’ outer borders a belt of good neighborhood in the political, cultural, information, social, economic, and military dimensions adjusted to the changes in the geopolitical and military-strategic situation in the region," the document says.
It is also planned to invigorate Belarus’ efforts to expand its participation in mutually beneficial initiatives and projects within the CIS, to participate in efforts toward increasing the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the world, using its institutions and mechanisms to realize national interests in various spheres.
