BELGRADE, March 10. /TASS/. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said he cannot vow that he will not impose anti-Russia sanctions in the future.
"I do not vow that we will not do it (speaking about imposing sanctions against Russia - TASS), and I cannot vow as it would be irresponsible, but our position is so firm that we have not had to do it so far," he told TV Happy on Thursday.
Serbia was quick to decide on its position on the Ukrainian conflict at the country’s Security Council, the president noted. "We (Serbia - TASS) do not impose sanctions against the Russian Federation, and I wrote the conclusion on Serbia’s Security Council, we consulted [each other] on each word, but I wrote them myself," he added. "We followed each word and we defined Serbia’s policy, for which we sometimes pay the price," Vucic stressed.
Addressing the nation soon after the launch of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, Vucic said that though his country supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity, it would not impose sanctions on Russia. He also announced that his country would temporarily suspend all army and police drills with foreign partners. He noted that Serbia viewed Russia and Ukraine as fraternal nations, regretted the developments in Eastern Europe and was ready to provide humanitarian assistance to Kiev.
