Ukraine’s top brass voices concern over rising popularity of Russian Telegram channels

According to the Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister, Russia is using Telegram channels "for its information operations," and as a result "discord, panic and despondency" can be seen in society

KIEV, November 17. /TASS/. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry expressed concern on Thursday over the growing audience of Ukrainian subscribers to Russian Telegram channels.

"Millions of Ukrainians are subscribed these days to Telegram channels that are run by the Russian Federation and its representatives," the UNN news agency quoted Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar as telling a briefing on Thursday. "We have repeatedly published this list, but regretfully their Ukrainian audience continues to grow for some reason," she said.

According to Malyar, Russia is using Telegram channels "for its information operations," and as a result "discord, panic and despondency" can be seen in society. She called on the citizenry of the country "to counteract this <...> by filtering their subscriptions to avoid damage to the moral and psychological state and conflicts in society.".
