Brussels expects Poland to request NATO consultation over incident with missiles

The source noted article 4 of the Washington Treaty, which provides for consultations in case of a threat to an alliance state’s security

BRUSSELS, November 15. /TASS/. Brussels expects Poland to request security consultations with NATO following reports that two missiles crossed into Poland near the Ukrainian border, a diplomatic source in a European country’s mission to Brussels told TASS on Tuesday.

"In a situation when munitions from an adjacent conflict zone accidentally hits the territory of a NATO country, the ally turns to NATO with a request to convene an emergency meeting of the North Atlantic Council under article 4 of the Washington Treaty, which provides for consultations in case of a threat to an alliance state’s security. A similar situation happened in 2012, when Turkey requested emergency NATO consultation after its territory had come under shelling from the Syrian territory and 13 civilians were hurt," the source said.
