Sullivan in contact with top Russian officials – Wall Street Journal

According to the sources of the newspaper, the purpose of contacts is to prevent escalation and preserve communication channels, and not to resolve the conflict

NEW YORK, November 7. /TASS/. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan had a series of confidential contacts in recent months with Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov and Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolay Patrushev to lower the risk of a broader conflict over Ukraine and against the use of nuclear weapons, The Wall Street Journal said, citing unnamed US and allied officials.

"The aim has been to guard against the risk of escalation and keep communications channels open, and not to discuss a settlement of the war in Ukraine," the newspaper said, citing officials.

No exact dates or the number of contacts were indicated by newspaper’s sources. The press service of Mr. Sullivan did not confirm the fact of such talks.
