MOSCOW, May 5. /TASS/. Russian figure-skater Evgeniya Medvedeva, the double silver medalist in ladies' singles at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyongChang, has given up cooperation with her renowned coach Eteri Tutberidze, TASS heard from Renat Layshev, the director of Sambo-70 center for sports and education, of which Medvedeva is an alumnus.
"Zhenya has severed cooperation with Eteri Georgiyevna [the second word being Ms. Tutberidze's patronymic TASS]," Layshev said. "We don't like the situation, no doubt. Still Zhenya plans to stay on with Sambo-70, although with a different coach."
"We never restricted her in anything and she maintains smooth relations with the school," he said. "We did try to mend the situation."
"I don't think this is a correct situation because Eteri Georgiyevna is doing everything in her power for her pupils," Layshev said. "That's a knotty philosophical issue and only time will show. It's a highly unrewarding thing to get into it deeply."
"Let's do justice to Ms. Tutberidze because she has a huge reserve of pupils," he said.
In the meantime, Tutberidze told TASS she would refrain from comments on Medvedeva's departure for the time being.
Evgeniya Medvedeva is a double winner of silver at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games [in the team events and in solo skating], a three-time world champion, a two-time Europe champion, and a two-time Grand Prix stage winner.
She began training with Tutberidze in 2007.
