UFA, December 5. /TASS/. The Western media not only gloss over or distort facts about Russia, but also resort to outright lies, so given the growing amount of inaccurate reporting it is crucial to take counter-measures, Andrey Sokolov, a deputy director general of TASS, said at a session of the Yalta International Economic Forum, afoot within the framework of the International Business Week in Ufa.
"The information space today is brimming with fake content and distorted perceptions. It is obvious that something needs to be done to counteract this, as such misinformation snowballs daily. It is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between truth and falsehoods. We are faced not just with distortions of certain facts, with the silencing of some information. We are seeing wholesale lies about our country in the media of the Western world," Sokolov said at the media session "The Whole Truth about the Truth."
He pointed out that in this regard both journalists and bloggers should treat information critically.
"It’s important that every person practices good 'information hygiene' these days," he added.
