FSB foils terror plot hatched by Ukrainian spies against key Russian gas pipeline

Russian citizens involved in this terrorist conspiracy have been apprehended

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. The Federal Security Service (FSB) has foiled a plot by Ukrainian intelligence to commit a terrorist attack on the South stream gas pipeline, and Russian citizens involved in this terrorist conspiracy have been apprehended, the Center for Public Relations of the FSB of Russia told TASS on Thursday.

"The Federal Security Service <...> thwarted an attempt by Ukrainian intelligence agencies to carry out act of sabotage and terrorism against the South Stream gas pipeline, through which energy supplies are delivered to Turkey and Europe," the center said.

"Russian citizens involved in the preparation and material support of the terrorist attack have been taken into custody," the center noted.

"They confiscated 4 magnetic mines, 4 kg of plastic explosives, delayed-action fuses, 593,000 rubles and means of communication containing correspondence and negotiations with an overseer from the intelligence services of Ukraine, instructions for assembling and installing an explosive device, as well as for the transfer of funds and the coordinates of the site of the explosion in the Volgograd Region," the center added.

The Investigation Department of Russia’s FSB has launched a criminal case under Articles 30 and 205 (preparation for a terrorist act) Article 205.4 (organization of a terrorist group and participating in it), and Article 22.1 of Russia’s Criminal Code ("illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, shipment or carrying of explosives or explosive devices).
