Former Aeroflot representative in UK sentenced to 13 years in jail for high treason

The case was judged in a closed hearing since it involved top secret materials

MOSCOW, November 15. /TASS/. Aeroflot’s ex-representative in the UK, Russian national Dmitry Fedotkin, was sentenced to 13 years at a maximum security prison for high treason, the press service of the Moscow City Court told TASS on Tuesday.

"The court found Fedotkin guilty under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code (high treason) and sentenced him to 13 years at a maximum security prison and fined [him] 300,000 rubles (over $4,900 - TASS)," the press service said. The case was judged in a closed-door hearing since it involved top secret information.

The defendant did not admit his guilt and appealed the sentence. The First Court of Appeals told TASS that the sentence was upheld and became effective.

Fedotkin was found guilty of handing over classified information on the social and political situation in Russia to British intelligence. At the preliminary investigation stage, he denied his involvement while his relatives said that they did not understand the essence of the accusations against him. He was arrested by Moscow’s Lefortovo Court on November 11, 2020.

Earlier, a TASS source confirmed that Fedotkin was Aeroflot’s representative in London. Aeroflot’s press service neither confirmed nor denied this information to TASS.
