Russia to continue supporting compatriots abroad, Lavrov says

The top diplomat emphasized that expanding Russia’s economic and investment ties will open a window of opportunities not only for Russian regions but also for compatriots and foreign nationals engaged in business activities

MOSCOW, November 1. /TASS/. Russia will continue to support compatriots abroad, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a message to participants in a world thematic conference of Russian compatriots living overseas, dubbed "Economic Cooperation: Compatriots and Russian Regions. Responding to Challenges of the Time."

"It is our duty to continue supporting our compatriots so we expect Russian regions to come up with initiatives in this regard. For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry will continue to facilitate your efforts," the message reads.

"Expanding Russia’s economic and investment ties will open a window of opportunities not only for Russian regions but also for compatriots and foreign nationals engaged in business activities," Lavrov noted. "We place great importance on the capacity of the business community of our compatriots in terms of promoting Russia’s economic interests in their countries of residence, effectively integrating Russian companies into the local business environment and attracting investment," he added.

According to Lavrov, there are good prospects for the broader use of tools available to commissions on trade and economic cooperation under the World Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad. "We suggest considering the possibility of creating an international business forum of compatriots living abroad as an expert platform," the Russian foreign minister noted.
