Over 15,000 people volunteer for Russia’s special operation in Ukraine — General Staff

The defense official outlined for senators the law on the status of volunteer formations and volunteers contributing to the Russian Armed Forces

MOSCOW, November 1. /TASS/. Over 15,000 people have volunteered for Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, Head of the 2nd Department of the Russian General Staff’s Main Organizational and Mobilization Directorate Alexander Tulyaganov said on Tuesday.

"By now, over 15,000 people have joined volunteer forces," he said at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Budget and Financial Markets.

The defense official outlined for senators the law on the status of volunteer formations and volunteers contributing to the Russian Armed Forces. He specified that the law did not apply to private military companies.

The new legislation introduces a provision, which stipulates involving volunteer formations for accomplishing particular defense assignments who assist the Russian Armed Forces during the period of mobilization, martial law, in the wartime, upon the emergence of armed conflicts, in counter-terror operations and also in case of using armed forces outside Russia.
