Coronavirus hospitalizations drop by 20% in Russia’s St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg has the second-highest number of COVID-10 cases nationwide after Moscow

ST. PETERSBURG, February 15. /TASS/. The number of coronavirus hospitalizations in the Russian city of St. Petersburg dropped by more than 20% in the past week, Chairman of the city’s Health Committee Dmitry Lisovets wrote on VKontakte on Monday.

"As many as 2,365 coronavirus patients and suspected COVID-19 patients were taken to hospitals last week. The number stood at 2,959 the week before last. That said, the number of hospital admissions has fallen by more than 20%," he pointed out.

The city’s medical facilities, which were turned into coronavirus hospitals, are beginning to return to normal operations.

According to Lisovets, the number of coronavirus vaccinations in St. Petersburg has doubled since mid-January. The city’s network of vaccination centers currently includes 121 facilities. In addition, mobile vaccination teams are inoculating people at social facilities. "We also plan to set up vaccination points in shopping malls," Lisovets added.

St. Petersburg has the second-highest number of COVID-10 cases nationwide after Moscow. The city has so far reported 354,196 coronavirus cases, 269,203 recoveries and 10,512 deaths. As many as 1,093 cases were recorded in the past day.
