Roscomos states decline in number of foreign orders and cooperation with NASA

Valery Sherin recalled that the national space industry has a long-term planning tool - the state program "Space Activities of Russia", which was formed for the period up to 2030

MOSCOW, October 31. /TASS/. Cooperation in outer space between Russian space corporation Roscosmos and NASA is declining, while the number of state defense orders and civil orders is growing, State Secretary and Deputy General Director of Roscosmos Valery Sherin said on Monday.

"Judging by the results of the past ten months of this year, it is obvious that the volume of external orders for goods and services of Roscosmos is declining, cooperation with NASA is declining, while the share of state planning and government orders in terms of both state defense orders and civilian products is growing," he said at the round table of the State Planning Committee at the Federation Council.

He recalled that the national space industry has a long-term planning tool - the state program "Space Activities of Russia", which was formed for the period up to 2030.

"But there has been a significant discrepancy between the content of the program and its corresponding financial support," he stressed.

Sherin explained that the activities are planned for a very long period due to many factors: the key one is the long-term of production.

"For example, a new spacecraft takes five to seven years from the stage of research and development to the first flight test," the deputy general director added. He also noted that that even the production of the Proton carrier rocket, the technology of which has been developed, takes at least two years.
