MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/. Russia’s State Space Corporation Roscosmos will produce 46 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) strategic combat systems, Roscosmos Chief Dmitry Rogozin said in a live broadcast on the Solovyov Live TV channel on Wednesday.
"Yesterday, I held a meeting of the Roscosmos operational headquarters for cooperation in organizing further Sarmat tests… and I am heading this headquarters. Overall, we will have 46 Sarmat strategic combat systems that will enter service in those silos where Voyevoda missiles are operational," Rogozin said, adding that "a whole series" of the missile’s tests was planned.
"Actually everything is proceeding according to our plan and that is why we are planning to carry out fight development tests this year and simultaneously we are already rolling out serial-produced missiles for arming the first regiment in the Krasnoyarsk Region: this is the Uzhur division," the Roscosmos chief said.
The transportation vehicles for this missile and its combat control systems are constantly tested, he added.
"I can say for sure that this weapon does work and is formidable from the standpoint of the retaliation potential that can strike any aggressor," the Roscosmos chief stressed.
The Sarmat ICBM has been developed at the Makeyev State Rocket Center (part of Roscosmos) and is manufactured at the Krasmash enterprise. In experts’ estimates, the RS-28 Sarmat is capable of delivering a MIRVed warhead weighing up to 10 tonnes to any location worldwide both over the North and South Poles.
