EU reluctant to accept Russia’s UNSC presidency as reality — Russian mission

Iirresponsible rhetoric only confirms that the EU is not ready to be a global player, it wrote on its Twitter account

BRUSSELS, April 2. /TASS/. Russia’s presidency of the United Nations Security Council is a reality the European Union is reluctant to accept, this way demonstrating its unreadiness to be a global player, Russia’s mission to the European Union said on Sunday.

"Russia’s presidency of the UN Security Council inn April is a reality that the EU refuses, and publicly, to reckon with. By the way, the EU has nothing to do with the UNSC," it wrote on its Twitter account. "Such irresponsible rhetoric only confirms that the EU is not ready to be a global player."

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell wrote on his Twitter account on Saturday that Russia’s taking over UNSC presidency "is fitting for April fools’ day." He pledged that the European Union "will stand against any abuse by Russian presidency."

Russia is holding presidency of the United Nations Security Council in April. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will go to New York in the second half of the month to take part in UNSC events.
