UNGA resolution on reparations to Ukraine has no legal force — Russian finance minister

It as a purely political statement that will have no continuation, Anton Siluanov said

MOSCOW, November 20./TASS/. The resolution of the UN General Assembly on reparations to Ukraine has no legal effect and will have no continuation, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said on Sunday.

"This resolution has no legal force. That is why we consider it as a purely political statement that will have no continuation," the minister said in the ‘Moscow. Kremlin. Putin’ program on Rossiya-24 TV channel in a conversation with journalist Pavel Zarubin.

The participants of the special session of the UN General Assembly on Monday adopted a resolution on compiling an international register of damage allegedly caused by Russia to Ukraine, as well as recognizing the need to create a mechanism to compensate for losses. Ninety-four countries voted in favor of the document, yet the initiative did not get any support from 97 countries (14 voted against, while 73 abstained).
