Kiev playing with people’s lives by shelling Kakhovka HPP - Russian lawmaker

He noted that this time no critical damage was done to the facilities of the power plant, but "the Kiev terrorist regime will continue its attempts to stage a humanitarian catastrophe

MOSCOW, November 6. /TASS/. Kiev is playing with the lives of civilians and is indulging in nuclear blackmailing by shelling the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, a Russian lawmaker said on Sunday.

"The Ukrainian armed forces have shelled the Kakhovka HPP from American HIMARS systems. <…> Kiev is gain playing with the lives of civilians, again resorting to nuclear blackmail. Since the destruction of several hydropower plants, the Ukrainian army is seeking to do, may entail a nuclear accident in Zaporozhye," Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the international committee of the Russian State Duma (lower parliament house), wrote on his Telegram channel.

He noted that this time no critical damage was done to the facilities of the power plant, but "the Kiev terrorist regime will continue its attempts to stage a humanitarian catastrophe." "In case the plant’s floodgates are destroyed, the stream of water will flow down the Dnieper to flood both settlements and, theoretically, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant," he emphasized.

Slutsky recalled that Russia earlier had circulated a letter in the United Nations Security Council calling for preventing provocations and attacks on the Kakhovka HPP. "We are waiting for a reaction of the world community. The tactic of total hushing of the Zelensky regime’s crimes is leading to the emergence of threats of man-made disasters and possible nuclear contamination. It is a kind of complicity too," he added.
