MOSCOW, February 9. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov believes that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear program is not dead.

"I wouldn’t say that the JCPOA was buried, but it is in intensive care," the diplomat told a press conference on Thursday. According to Ryabkov, Moscow sees no sound or sensible alternative to the JCPOA.

"The parties to the deal have been reaffirming their commitment to those basic ideas inherent in it which had ensured stability and enhanced regional security until the US unilaterally withdrew from it," the Russian deputy foreign minister explained. "Naturally, the sooner the United States returns to the agreement to meet their obligations under UN Security Council Resolution 2231 in full, the better," he added.

According to Ryabkov, Iran is still cooperating with the IAEA in nuclear energy.

"There are still issues to be discussed <…> on a number of fronts. As far as the JCPOA is concerned, all has not been lost," he concluded.
