Energodar mayor has been relieved of his duties, source in city administration says

Volga himself did not confirm the information about the suspension, noting that he was on vacation

MELITOPOL, November 20. /TASS/. Energodar Mayor Alexander Volga has been relieved of his duties by the administration of the Zaporozhye Region, a source in the city’s administration told TASS.

"Volga has been relieved of his duties and prohibited from staying on the territory of the region," the source said. According to the source, Volga has been dismissed by a decree of the region’s Acting Governor Yevgeny Balitsky.

Volga hasn’t confirmed to TASS that he was dismissed, saying he was on vacation.

Volga took the position of Energodar mayor in the summer. He replaced Andrey Shevchik, who had been attacked and wounded together with his bodyguards in May.

Energodar is a city on the eastern bank of the Dnieper in the Zaporozhye Region. It’s home to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which is the largest NPP in Europe in terms of reactors and installed capacity. The plant has been guarded by Russian troops since March. The Russian Foreign Ministry has said the plant required protection in order to prevent theft of nuclear materials. Ukrainian forces continue to shell Energodar and the ZNPP area adjacent to the city.
