Russia’s envoy to Japan to resign

Mikhail Galuzin was appointed Ambassador of Russia to Japan in January 2018

TOKYO, November 11. /TASS/. Russian Ambassador to Japan Mikhail Galuzin announced at a news conference in Tokyo on Friday that he would soon leave his post.

"Yes, it’s true. I am leaving this position for another role in Moscow," the Russian diplomat said in response to a request for comment on relevant reports in the Japanese media. Galuzin said he was currently spending his last days as ambassador in Tokyo. "It was a great honor for me to be appointed Ambassador to Japan where I had previously been on three diplomatic missions. I am proud of the confidence the leadership has shown in me," he added.

According to Galuzin, the bulk of the time spent during his stint as the Russian envoy to Tokyo coincided with a benign period in relations between Russia and Japan. Russia and Japan have had success "reaching major agreements in the spheres of economy, energy and culture," he said.
