US Joint Chiefs Chair sees possibility for talks between Kiev, Moscow

Mark Milley also commented on the situation around the pullback of Russian troops to the other side of the Dnieper River in the Kherson Region

NEW YORK, November 10. /TASS/. Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley said that he sees an opportunity for talks between Russia and Ukraine and urged the sides to take advantage of it, speaking at the Economic Club of New York on Wednesday.

He commented on the situation around the pullback of Russian troops to the other side of the Dnieper River in the Kherson Region. In his opinion, Russia decided on this move "in order to preserve their force to reestablish defensive lines," although in spring these troops may resume their offensive.

However, according to the Associated Press, Milley said that "there’s also an opportunity here, a window of opportunity for negotiation."

He pointed out that in order to negotiate, Ukraine and Russia should reach "a mutual recognition" that a military victory "is maybe not achievable through military means, and therefore you need to turn to other means," citing the end of World War One as an example.

"When there’s an opportunity to negotiate, when peace can be achieved, seize it. Seize the moment," CNN quoted him as saying.

According to the TV channel, the military official also stressed that in the absence of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia or their failure, the US will continue to supply weapons to Kiev.
