Medvedev slams Western countries for neocolonial views

According to Dmitry Medvedev, Russia is currently facing enormous sanctions pressure from Western countries

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. A number of Western countries, including the US, steadfastly stick to the views and political doctrines that are in fact neocolonial, Deputy Chief of the Russian Security Council and Chairman of the United Russia party Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday at an international inter-party conference dubbed Pressing International Security Issues Amid Geopolitical Instability.

"Unfortunately, certain Western countries, primarily the United States, and some of their junior partners ignore objective reality and tenaciously stick to the long outdated views and political doctrines that are in fact neocolonial. They are unwilling to take the position and will of sovereign states into account," Medvedev pointed out.

He slammed such an approach as a dead-end that leads to the loss of many traditional values, the globalization of economic development issues and violations of people’s rights and freedoms. "It is only possible to build trust among countries, ensure their security and sustainable development by strengthening a truly multipolar world order. The Russian Federation and the United Russia party are making every effort to that end," Medvedev noted.

According to him, Russia is currently facing enormous sanctions pressure from Western countries. "As a result, there is a global famine threat, energy shortages and other artificial problems that are making millions of people in developing countries suffer, including on the African continent," Medvedev stressed.
