Russia concerned about politicization of peaceful nuclear energy, diplomat says

Maria Zakharova stressed that Russia remained "the largest supplier of commercial nuclear technologies to global markets"

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Moscow is concerned about the collective West’s politicization of peaceful nuclear energy and Washington’s calls on countries to stop cooperating with Russia in this field, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday.

According to her, the US administration believes that countries who produce advanced equipment and build nuclear power plants "should simply be banned from attending any US-hosted events" related to nuclear technologies, while all those who seek to meet with Russian experts outside the US, "have been recommended" not to do business with Russia.

"Such behavior has become normal for the US who shamelessly uses all kinds of excuses and methods to maintain its economic control wherever possible. Russia consistently calls for equal access to peaceful nuclear energy for all countries and we are extremely concerned about the collective West’s politicization of this industry," the diplomat noted.

The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stressed that Russia remained "the largest supplier of commercial nuclear technologies to global markets." "We intend to continue boosting international cooperation in the field of nuclear technologies and fuel, focusing on interacting with countries who are guided by common sense and their national interests," she added. "We are ready for equal cooperation but we don’t accept US hegemony. At the same time, we have no plans to carry out smear campaigns against our competitors the way Washington does. We offer highly competitive products in this field, which are well known all over the world," Zakharova emphasized.
