Revealing one’s negotiating stance not always advisable — Putin

Sometimes, a negotiating position should be made public at the very last moment, Russian President said

SOCHI, November 1. /TASS/. Revealing one’s negotiating stance beforehand is not always advisable for achieving the intended result, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters on Monday, when asked what Russia has to offer to Ukraine.

"In order to start putting forward some proposals during talks, these talks should begin first. And revealing your negotiating stance beforehand is not always advisable if you want to achieve your national goals," the Russian leader said.

Sometimes, a negotiating position should be made public at the very last moment, Putin said. In other cases, one should approach the talks "with a stance that diplomats call ‘a demand position,’" the Russian leader added.
