US seeks to tarnish governments of undesirable countries — Russian diplomat

The propaganda opuses of the State Department are aimed at demonizing political systems of undesirable countries and creating a pretext for interfering in their internal affairs, Anatoly Antonov said

WASHINGTON, April 13. /TASS/. The US Department of State’s criticism of alleged violations of rights and freedoms in Russia reflects the US government’s determination to smear governments of undesirable states, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said, answering to a media question.

"It is clear to us that the propaganda opuses of the State Department are aimed at demonizing political systems of undesirable countries and creating a pretext for interfering in their internal affairs," he said, commenting on the report on the situation with human rights in the world in 2021, published by the U.S. State Department on April 12.

"We are witnessing another round of hackneyed and baseless accusations against our country," the ambassador added.

On Tuesday, the US Department of State published the 2021 version of its annual 2021 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices. Its contents, including the Russian section, is largely similar to previous editions of the document. Back then, Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said the document was full of double standards and clich·d accusations.
