Berlin continues to escalate tensions in bilateral relations with Moscow, diplomat says

Maria Zakharova also commented on the statement made by the German Defense Minister regarding threats posed by Russia, China, and Islamic extremism

MOSCOW, June 23. /TASS/. Germany should engage in a dialogue with Moscow instead of trying to "building up muscle" for the protection of liberal values, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Wednesday.

"Instead of following the example of its superior — Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel — ahead of the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, started by the Germans, and remind about the necessity of a dialogue with Russia, with whom Germany is tied historically, socially and economically, [German Defense Minister] Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer decided to urge the German top military brass to build up muscles to protect the liberal values from Russia," Zakharova said. "Basically, this borders on being an oxymoron."

"The second half of July is the time when we are particularly interested in the statements coming from the German military," Zakharova underscored.

The diplomat also commented on the statement made by the German Defense Minister regarding threats posed by Russia, China, and Islamic extremism.

"Who gave you the right to put on the same board, to compare and to officially state any analogies between Russia and China on the one hand, and Islamic extremism on another one? I would like to simply remind the German Defense Minister that Russia fights the radical Islamism in Syria, unlike Germany," Zakharova said.
