Lawmaker calls for asset freeze for businessmen that left Russia during special operation

It is noted that it is necessary to consider applying similar measures to persons who left the Russian Federation after February 24, 2022, and even more so to those persons who renounced Russian citizenship

MOSCOW, November 17. /TASS/. Andrey Kutepov, head of the Federation Council’s Economic Policy Committee, is set to send a letter to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko proposing to freeze the assets of major business people and heads of state corporations that left Russia after the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, according to a copy of the letter that was obtained by TASS.

"In the context of actions taken by unfriendly countries to search for assets (including property) of Russian billionaires in the territories of those states, seizures of such assets (freezing), we believe that it is necessary to consider applying similar measures to persons who left the Russian Federation after February 24, 2022, and even more so to those persons who renounced Russian citizenship," the letter says.
