Russian media watchdog demands Google restore access to VGTRK YouTube channels

The watchdog stressed that it considers the blocking of Russian state media’s channels inadmissible

MOSCOW, April 17. /TASS/. Russia’s mass media and communications watchdog (Roskomnadzor) has demanded Google immediately lift restrictions off YouTube channels of Russian regional branches of the VGTRK broadcaster.

"Roskomnadzor demands Google LLC immediately restore access to YouTube channels of VGTRK branches owned by Russian state-run regional media. Thus, the YouTube administration blocked GTRK channels Stavropolye, Krasnodar, Bashkortostan, Novosibirsk, Kuzbass, and Vainakh in the Chechen Republic," it wrote on its Telegram channel on Sunday.

The watchdog stressed that it considers the blocking of Russian state media’s channels inadmissible and demanded the reasons for this decision be explained.

Since April 2020, the watchdog has exposed more than 60 cases of restrictions against Russian channels on YouTube.
