HAIKOU /China/, April 4. /TASS/. Sanya city on the southern coast of China's Hainan province is boosting intensive development through innovation, a more modern industry structure and projects to improve people's welfare. This was reported by the Hainan Daily newspaper, citing the local government.
According to the newspaper, by 2024, the core business income of high-tech companies in Sanya should exceed 40 billion yuan ($6.29 billion at the current exchange rate). This advanced cluster will include about 500 enterprises, three of which are scientific and technological platforms of the national level.
Moreover, it is noted that due to optimization and improvement of the supply chain efficiency about 150 thousand new jobs will be created in the next two years in the city and the unemployment rate will drop below 4%. The authorities intend to promote continuous improvement of professionalism as well as the cultural level of the workers. Thousands of villagers will have the opportunity to retrain for new projects, which will noticeably accelerate the intensive economic development of the region.
According to published statistics, the Sanya administration will vigorously improve the health care and the elderly care system. In 2024 there will be 3-4 doctors per 1 thousand residents on average. It is also planned to devote a lot of attention to the education of the younger generation: 86% of children will be enrolled in pre-school education.
In order to achieve a real breakthrough, the city must, as the Sanya Municipal Party Committee noted, significantly diversify the industry, develop not only tourism and real estate, but also a number of new fields in the shortest possible time. "It is necessary to form a powerful high-tech sector and a modern service sector, to constantly increase the flexibility of the growth structure. Only in this way will we be able to ensure the intensive development of the economy," the authorities said.
Sanya is China's leading resort, home to more than 1 million people. In 2021 its gross product reached 83.5 billion yuan (about $13.2 billion), having increased by 12.1%. The city has an average annual temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius and a coastline of more than 200 kilometers. There are 19 bays and about 40 islands in the surrounding waters, all of which enable the local government to successfully develop yacht tourism and beach recreation and implement important economic projects.
