Nord Stream 2 clearly showed Europe’s subordinate position at global stage — Lavrov

The Russian foreign minister noted he had not thought that West’s sanctions "caused by impotent rage will cover the sports movement, the cultural exchange, will affect contacts between people"

MOSCOW, March 2. /TASS/. The situation around the Nord Stream 2 showed that Europe holds an absolutely subordinate and dependent place at the global stage, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Al Jazeera TV Channel.

"We were ready for everything. I had no doubt the EU and, clearly, NATO will obediently follow the United States. Especially when the fate of the Nord Stream 2 became clear," Lavrov said.

"The Nord Stream 2 has [already] played its role in history because it clearly showed the place Europe, including Germany, actually holds at the global stage - the absolutely subordinate and dependent place," the Minister added.

The Russian top diplomat noted he had not thought that West’s sanctions "caused by impotent rage will cover the sports movement, the cultural exchange, will affect contacts between people."

Seizure of assets of the Central Bank and Russian private companies by the West is stealing, the Minister said.

"[The West] forgot about all their principles they promoted at the internal stage, including when they started seizing assets of the Central Bank of Russia and our private companies. This is simply stealing. They dropped all the rights there were planting in the international life for the last seventy-odd years. They simply derailed these rules now and returned to robber, wild capitalism of the Gold Rush times," Lavrov added.
