China displayed Kinzhal-like hypersonic missile as warning to US — newspaper

According to the experts cited by SCMP, "the Chinese variant is more powerful and would deter US warships from entering the region in the event of a conflict"

HONG KONG /XINGGANG/, November 8. /TASS/. China displayed an anti-ship hypersonic missile reminiscent of the Russian Kinzhal missile at the 14th Airshow China expo as a warning for the US against interfering in the Taiwan situation, says an article by South China Morning Post published Tuesday.

According to the newspaper, the missile in question is the export version of the YJ-21 missile that has a range of over 2,000 km.

"Military experts said the weapon’s appearance at the 14th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, or Airshow China, could be seen as a warning to the United States on Taiwan," the article reads.

The newspaper explains that the conical shape of the warhead is reminiscent of the Russian air-based Kinzhal hypersonic missile, which can carry a nuclear payload and has a range of over 2,000 km.

According to the experts cited by SCMP, "the Chinese variant is more powerful and would deter US warships from entering the region in the event of a conflict."

Furthermore, as pointed out by Kanwa Asian Defence editor-in-chief Andrei Chang, "none of the US sea-based air defense systems are able to intercept the hypersonic missile."

The Airshow China expo is taking place between November 8 and 13 in China’s Zhuhai. It involves over 740 companies from 43 countries and regions.
