MOSCOW, February 22 (Itar-Tass) —Businessman Mikhail Prokhorov, Russian presidential candidate and ex-leader of the Just Cause party (JCP), has announced the creation of a new party.

Prokhorov wrote in his Internet blog, "I decided to create an independent rightist party. Already now, during the election campaign, I am moving on creating a new political force. You know my political programme. I announced it. A mass party force for such programme is needed immediately, right now".

"Such a party will be millions-strong, a people's party that will be much larger than the party in power," Prokhorov maintains.

Prokhorov pointed out that "the backbone of this party has already taken shape: these are non-indifferent and competent citizens" who became his supporters simply because they adhere to views that are similar to Prokhorov's and have a common vision of the situation in the country and they are in need of an "exponent and bearer of their interests in high places".

At the end of June 2011, Prokhorov took up the leadership of the JCP. However, he stayed at the head of the party for less than three months. In the middle of September, after the rightists' scandalous congress, Prokhorov resigned, without implementing his plans for participation in the State Duma elections.
