WASHINGTON, October 27. /TASS/. The summer ceasefire with Iran was "a waste of time," US President Donald Trump said.
"We did a little ceasefire, which I never liked very much. I considered it sort of a waste of time," he said at a Republican campaign event in Mississippi. "We did a little ceasefire, so we let some ships get in. You know, we want to be nice, but it was just a waste of time, as far as I'm concerned," Trump added.
Speaking about the outbreak of the conflict, Trump claimed that the United States had no choice. "This should have been done by other presidents a long time ago," he said, adding: "It'll be over soon."
The United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding envisaging an immediate ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, early on July 8, the United States resumed massive airstrikes on Iran, accusing Tehran of violating their previous agreements regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
