WASHINGTON, August 12. /TASS/. The US Department of States has reiterated its commitment to ensure a successful meeting between the US and Russian presidents, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, in Alaska on August 15.
"Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov regarding the preparation for the upcoming summit between President Donald J. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin," State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement. "Both sides confirmed their commitment to ensure a successful event."
The Russian foreign ministry said earlier in the day that Minister Sergey Lavrov and US State Secretary Marco Rubio discussed preparations for the upcoming. "Both sides confirmed their commitment to the successful holding of the event," it said.
US President Donald Trump said earlier that he hopes to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15. The date and venue were later confirmed by Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov, who said that the Russian and US presidents will focus on discussing options for reaching a lasting settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. The Kremlin, in his words, expects that the two leaders will meet in Russia’s territory after their talks in Alaska.
The White House announced later that the summit will be held in Anchorage.
