Abkhazia ready to raise security standards jointly with Russia — top diplomat

Oleg Bartsits recalled that many Abkhazian politicians have been calling for closer cooperation between Russia and Abkhazia’s defense ministries and security services

MOSCOW, June 6. /TASS/. Abkhazia is interested in security cooperation with Russia, as this will serve as an additional support to cool the situation in the Eastern part of the Black Sea region and the South Caucasus, Abkhazia’s new Foreign Minister Oleg Bartsits said.

"We are interested in strengthening security standards jointly [with Russia]. In such a sensitive region as the South Caucasus, this creates additional security standards and guarantees for controlling the situation in the Eastern Black Sea and directly in the South Caucasus," he told TASS in his first interview with the Russian mass media.

He also recalled that many Abkhazian politicians have been calling for closer cooperation between Russia and Abkhazia’s defense ministries and security services. Such cooperation, in his words, is already developing and can be intensified.

Abkhazian President Badra Gunba told TASS earlier that there are plans to set up a logistics base for the Russian Black Sea Fleet near the city of Ochamchira.
