EU to rename human rights sanctions regime after Navalny, top diplomat says

BRUSSELS, February 19. /TASS/. The European Union plans to rename its human rights sanctions regime after Alexey Navalny, top EU diplomat Josep Borrell said upon arrival to an EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels.

"We propose the ministers to rename our human rights sanctions regime with his name, and call it the Navalny human rights sanctions regime," he said.

Borrell pointed out that Navalny’s wife Yulia would be present at the meeting. According to him, the event’s participants intend to send "a political message about how to support the opposition, the political opposition, inside Russia."
