Ukrainian embassy sends note of protest to Belarusian foreign ministry — ambassador

It is reported that the embassy sent a corresponding note of protest to the Belarusian foreign ministry

MINSK, January 17. /TASS/. Ukraine’s embassy in Minsk has sent a note of protest to the foreign ministry following a TV report about Ukrainian diplomats recruiting mercenaries, Ukrainian Ambassador Igor Kizim said on Tuesday.

According to the Ukrainian diplomat, the protest was caused by Yekaterina Tikhomirova’s program on the Belarus 1 television channel on January 16. "The author alleges that the embassy is a recruiting center for sending mercenaries to Ukraine. <…> The embassy sent a corresponding note of protest to the Belarusian foreign ministry," he wrote on his Facebook (outlawed in Russia as owned by the Meta corporation, which was recognized as extremist in Russia) page.

As evidence, the Belarusian television channel showed "Georgian national Georgy Zarakishvili, who is trying to reach Ukraine with the embassy’s help to 'fight' there, and tells this to Belarusian special services that detained him," Kizim wrote, slamming the video as a "lie and manipulation."

Commenting on the detention of a man seeking to fight for the Ukrainian army in Minsk, the Belarus-1 state-run television channel said on Monday that Ukraine is using its embassies in foreign countries to recruit mercenaries.
