EU’s goal not to freeze, but to confiscate Russian assets in Europe, says EC

It is noted that over 350 bln euros will be required for Ukraine’s reconstruction

BERLIN, October 25. /TASS/. The European Union’s goal is not to freeze, but to confiscate Russian assets in Europe, though it is not trivial legally, European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen said at a conference on Ukraine in Berlin.

"Freezing means really not too much," she said, adding that the assets "have to be confiscated," and that "legally it is not trivial." "We insist on the rule of law," von der Leyen noted, adding that "this process has to be legally sound."

Over 350 bln euros will be required for Ukraine’s reconstruction, according to the World Bank’s estimations made public in early September, the EC’s president said. It roughly equals the amount announced by the EU and the US of Russia’s assets frozen on their territory.
